Advocate for injury and violence prevention and promote education and surveillance in Maryland through statewide partnerships. The Partnership for a Safer Maryland was formed in September of 2005 in response to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene receiving a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Core Injury Grant. This five year grant supports the States capacity to address injury and violence in Maryland and seeks to establish a self-sufficient injury program that will continue to address the safety needs of our residents long into the future. In May 2016, CDC announced that the Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Environmental Health Bureau, Center for Injury and Sexual Assault Prevention (CISAP), a unit of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH), would be the grant recipient for an additional five years. The Partnership applied once again and received the funding as a Injury Community Implementation Group (ICIGs). The Partnership offers technical assistance to both members and non-members in regards to injury prevention. We recommend injury priority areas for the State, serve as a resource for program design, implementation, evaluation, and provide additional data, surveillance and training to members. Further, we have assisted in writing Planning for the Future of Injury and Violence Prevention in Maryland a strategic plan for statewide injury prevention. The Partnership is comprised of individuals representing local, state and federal agencies, universities and research institutions, injury care providers, as well as private, professional and non-profit organizations. Our quarterly meetings serve as a forum for highlighting successful Maryland injury prevention programs as well as an opportunity for our partners to network with each other and share information and resources.
