The mission of Lakeside School is to develop in intellectually capable young people the creative minds, healthy bodies, and ethical spirits needed to contribute wisdom, compassion, and leadership to a global society. We provide a rigorous and dynamic academic program through which effective educators lead students to take responsibility for learning. <p>Discovery Academy is a therapeutic boarding school located in the heart of Provo, Utah. Discovery serves teens ages 13-17. Our students are typically bright underachievers with emotional or behavioral problems that have resulted in struggles at home, in school, or in the community. These students may have trouble with substance abuse, behavioral problems, mood disorders, or learning difficulties. Discovery Academy is an excellent boarding school choice for teens that have failed in traditional boarding schools and/or are transitioning from other types of treatment programs, such as wilderness or intensive residential treatment programs. Discovery uses a single gender hybrid treatment model. Boys and girls have separate living and learning areas. They share some activities when their therapists feel it is clinically advantageous. Located in an urban environment, Discovery students have the opportunity to take university courses and even have part-time jobs while they are in treatment. Hillside is a private Christian school that fosters future innovators through a project-based learning approach emphasizing academics, problem solving, creativity, social skills, faith and character development. We provide our students with the core academic skills to prepare them for the next level using the philosophy that one size does not fit all. Our play-based preschool program with targeted learning objectives gives students the start they need; our elementary then builds on this foundation by engaging students in hands-on learning so that by middle school our students are focusing on real-life application of the knowledge and skills they have learned. We offer a variety of specialized programs consisting of classes in fine art, foreign language, creative movement, music, as well as a curriculum focused on interdisciplinary, hands-on learning. Additionally, Hillside Academy offers specialized learning programs for children with dyslexia and language difficulties. The Hillside Academy student will be encouraged to become global citizens, through community service projects, our annual giving market and with stewardship programs. We strive to make our classrooms safe places where students can accept their mistakes and talk freely about their ideas.
