PaperlessMail patent involves a multi-step process for high speed low cost delivery of postal mail via the Internet. First large amounts of unsorted mail are run through high speed extraction equipment to remove the contents from each envelope. The resulting stacks of open mail are run through high speed scanning equipment. Software converts each mailpiece into a PDF file. Then using OCR technology the PDF is linked to a recipient. The system then inserts the PDF in that recipient's online repository. Recipients receive their mail anytime, anywhere no matter where they are. Software sorts the mail less expensively than physical sorting. Mailpieces are delivered over the Internet instead of using trucks resulting in more cost savings and no environmental impact.
