oWOW Digital Online Radio is a bold step into the future with roots firmly planted in history. Lead by radio programming legend John Gorman, the man who created "The Buzzard" (WMMS-FM) in 1970s Cleveland, one of the most popular and influential rock stations in the country. John had an innate ability to tap into the listening audience, then capture and build incredible loyalty. oWOW is John’s vision for the future – just as audiences were moving to FM radio in the 1970s, now audiences are on the web. oWOW is “The sweet spot between classic rock and indie rock.” What makes us different is the local focus on the 17 counties of Northeast Ohio. The air staff includes veterans of Cleveland-area radio, relating to the audience and mentoring them with new releases and new artists. The Roots After spending 13 years at WMMS, serving as music director and program director, John Gorman went on to became operations manager of WMMS and WHK. He then left and founded a radio consulting firm, Gorman Media, and worked with stations in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Cleveland, and other markets. Gorman won the Radio Consultant of the Year award at the 1985 annual Pop Music Convention and was awarded Operations Director of the Year in 1995 by Billboard magazine. From 1994-1997 John worked as the VP of OmniAmerica Communications. In all his ventures, John produced tremendous ratings, which of course meant record ad sales and revenue for the stations. The Present Founded in 2014, WOW Media’s first foray into Digital Online Radio is oWOW in Cleveland featuring a staff of veteran jocks from Northeast Ohio Playing a combination of classic rock and new releases, it has a global reach, but a local focus.
