houm. is an award-winning design technology firm reimagining how homes are designed, built, and priced, delivering homes that are smarter, greener, and more attainable than conventional construction makes possible. Founded by Scott Shall, Professor of Architecture at Lawrence Technological University, and Breck Crandell, licensed architect and design director, houm. combines a proprietary generative design platform with digital fabrication and off-site manufacturing to fundamentally redesign the housing delivery process. Our completed projects speak for themselves. The Cochrane Home in Detroit's North Corktown was delivered in 8 months at $211/sf, 40% below the regional average, and is projected to use 83% less energy than comparable homes. The Royal Home in Fort Wayne was completed in 4 months at $194/sf, 15% below the regional average. Across every project, construction waste is reduced by 33% and timelines by 30 to 35%. These outcomes are the product of a smarter process: generative design software that optimizes thousands of design possibilities for daylighting, passive heating and cooling, spatial efficiency, and cost; digitally fabricated service cores that compress timelines and eliminate waste; and durable, sustainable materials that reduce the environmental and financial cost of homeownership over time. houm. is currently at work on projects ranging from a Passive House-certified residence in Detroit to a 40-unit eco-village in Ypsilanti and an off-grid retreat in Vermont.
