Orthopedic Sciences, Inc. (OSI) was founded in 1999 and is managed under the leadership of Dr. James K. Brannon, Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. OSI designs, develops and manufactures proprietary medical products for the orthopaedic industry. The primary focus of product development is an understanding of the basic science of the disease for which the new product is intended. Unique to OSI is its ability to provide high quality innovative medical products that timely address real-time clinical needs expressed by practicing surgeons. Dr. Brannon's recent innovation, the Hip Tool™, is specifically designed to prevent or delay a total hip replacement in patients with a disease called osteonecrosis (dead bone in the hip joint). Osteonecrosis/avascular necrosis may occur as a side effect of steroid use, leukemia, a variety of other medical conditions, or in patients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy, HAART, for individuals with H.I.V. This device and procedure invented by Dr. Brannon offers many patients a chance to save their hip, while using a minimally-invasive surgical technique that allows for a relatively speedy (and less painful) recovery. Dr. Brannon has also developed a similar procedure for the knee, the shoulder, and the ankle joint. Dr. Brannon is known for several other innovative products, including the BONE TOOL™ for large volume bone and bone marrow collection, and the Outologous Trephine-Aspirator™ (OT-A™), for large volume percutaneous bone marrow aspiration. OSI continues to grow by focusing on the basic sciences of orthopaedics and has developed unique products that provide benefit to patients and are easy to use by surgeons.
