The purpose of Origo Project is to create a social impact initiative aimed at solving an important problem: Canada’s deficit of high impact entrepreneurs. Compared to the US, Canada has produced very few individuals comparable to Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. There are many reasons for which this is true but one of the reasons why stems from the lack entrepreneurship within the Canadian schooling system. At top US institutions such as Wharton, MIT, Stanford, Harvard, entrepreneurship is thriving due to the support systems they have in place for their student entrepreneurs. The problem is that most Canadian students do not even see entrepreneurship as a viable career path; rather, it is seen as a last resort. But the reality is that Canadian students are just as capable of succeeding in business as their US counterparts. Canadian students have the mental horsepower and drive that would enable them to succeed. The only thing they are lacking compared to their US counterparts is their level of ambition – in other words, Canadian students tend to have lower expectations of themselves. As a result, they are less ambitious. This is a problem that can be solved. By hosting workshops, events, and get-togethers, we can provide Canadian students with the tools they need to get started on their entrepreneurial journey. We are involved with both McGill (Dobson Center) and Concordia (District 3) University’s center of entrepreneurship. Our mission will be to raise students’ expectations and ambitions by allowing students to network with other student entrepreneurs, educate them on Canadian success stories, and connect them to business leaders. Exposure to successful business leaders and their stories will allow student to realize that these successful individuals are not so different than anyone else. As a result, we will be able to shift expectations and provide the future generation of entrepreneurs the tools and network they need to succeed.
