Orbis Wheels, Inc Advanced Electric and Hybrid Drivetrains An innovator in drivetrain science, Orbis reengineered the wheel to achieve unparalleled efficiency and cost breakthroughs in electric and hybrid land vehicles, including autonomous passenger cars and ground robotics. Orbis begins with an application specific version of the patented Ring-DriveTM which reduces the polar moment of inertia of a wheel by 40%. This reduction in wheel MOI provides upstream opportunities to further reduce drivetrain losses leading to an overall reduction in vehicle mass that may exceed 25%. Producing Ring-DriveTM wheel technologies in-house makes it possible for Orbis to retrofit to conventional vehicles or produce clean-sheet rolling stock with unparalleled turn around time. Once the pre-production vehicle is completed, Orbis then licenses the technology to our strategic OEM partner for delivery to consumers as end product but provides continuation engineering for as long as necessary to ensure success. Data strongly suggests meanwhile that Orbis’s Ring-DriveTM suite of technologies will in time make conventional drivetrain methods obsolete.
