The Optico team is made up of Moms and Dads who care deeply about their kids' eye health. Back in October 2015, we supported the Canadian Optometrists' Association in getting the word out during Children's Vision Month, helping to educate and encourage parents to get their children's eyes checked early and frequently. After that, we did our own research and decided there was still so much more to do, and that our efforts should continue year-round. Why is this so important? Even we were surprised to find out! Most parents have no idea there could be something wrong with their child's eyesight. All these occurrences may be telltale signs your child needs help with their vision: Certain "clumsy" behaviours (like tripping or bumping into things) Trouble in school (grades slipping, or seeming like the child is not paying attention) Aversions to certain activities (such as reading and other 'close' activities -- or certain sports and other 'distance' activities) However, what is most remarkable is that sometimes, there is trouble without any warning signs at all. When caught early, some problems can be treated or even completely corrected. That's why we're on a mission to educate and motivate Moms and Dads across Canada to have their children's eyes checked early... and regularly. At this time, there is no national initiative to make eye-testing mandatory for school kids. But, several provinces do have programs in place to help with the costs of eye exams (often completely free for youngsters) and eyewear too. Please, help us spread the word so we can raise a generation of kids who can truly see where they're headed in life. 80% of all learning during a child's first 12 years is visually-based.
