The team co-founder OpTicJ, formerly known as OpTic Jon3s, consistently tried to find matches for the team to compete in. However, OpTic was sponsored by NxGamers and was forced to solely compete in matches hosted by the organization's website. Without the widespread use of capture cards and live stream platforms to record match results, teams were forced to rely on virtual referees to spectate and verify competitions. Unfortunately, the lack of referees often forced teams to cancel scheduled games, but in the midst of this issue, a new official named Plague Prestige volunteered to referee one of OpTic's matches. From that point, Prestige developed a consistent presence and continued to frequently spectate competitions. Because of this, the referee developed a friendship with OpTicJ, and as the summer progressed, the team decided to make Prestige a member of OpTic Gaming. Welcoming Prestige into OpTic was a sensitive situation and would undoubtedly create a conflict of interest in the NxGamers organization, however, as the summer came to a close, Prestige was welcomed into the team where he became known as OpTic H3CZ. H3CZ left his position as a virtual referee a year later and teamed with OpTicJ and OpTic Carlton in the team's first ever live tournament at The Hardknocks in Orlando, Florida. H3CZ, OpTicJ, and OpTic Carlton led the team to a 3rd place finish. A year later, OpTicJ passed the reins to H3CZ. Coupled with his brother OpTic Tumors, H3CZ established OpTic Gaming as a dominant sniping team in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. As the OpTic Gaming sniper revolution continued, and gaming became more of a sharable social experience on YouTube, H3CZ soon created the groundwork for OpTic Nation.
