OpenSME is a national coalition making sure small and medium-sized enterprises are heard as Canada rolls out open banking. Founded by CPA Eric Saumure and powered by Zenbooks, we unite entrepreneurs, accountants, fintechs, and business groups to push for secure, consent-based data sharing that actually lowers costs and speeds up access to capital. Canada’s SMEs face opaque fees, slow payments, and blunt credit scoring. Open banking fixes the data lock-in at the root of those problems. Our Budget 2026 asks are simple: mandate an SME-focused framework with deadlines, fund pilots that prove real benefits, and resource privacy, outreach, and a permanent SME advisory council.
