Developing new medicines is hard: 9 out of 10 times, clinical drug development fails. Open Targets exists to improve this. We are a pre-competitive public-private partnership—bringing together EMBL-EBI, Genentech, GSK, MSD, Pfizer, Sanofi, and the Wellcome Sanger Institute—to systematically identify and prioritise targets for the development of new therapies. Our partners work together to design and implement projects combining large-scale experimental research with world-class computational science. Our projects build evidence that connects genes to diseases, and we share our results openly. Our freely available Open Targets Platform (platform.opentargets.org) is an open-source knowledge base that integrates publicly available data to help researchers across disciplines explore target-disease associations and build robust therapeutic hypotheses.
