More than a five years ago, we set out to improve the outcome of school and workplace emergencies. By enabling lateral communication, collective intelligence, and real-time accountability, OnScene empowers everyone to report and see where danger is, respond to where help is needed and know who is safe, all in one place. We were first responders, first. Our management team has more than three decades of experience communicating during and responding to emergencies in schools, business, and workplaces. In 2011, when we looked at the existing hardware that was being used by teachers, employees and public safety personnel to do their jobs, we saw an opportunity to leverage the mobile devices in their hands and the computer on their desks to completely transform how people share information during an emergency. Horrific tragedies such as the 2014 shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL demonstrate exactly what can happen when we rely on disparate, siloed, and outdated technology to communicate or gain situational awareness. The danger was identified, yet people were not aware of it until it was upon them. First responders looked at video surveillance footage that was twenty minutes old in an effort to determine where the shooter was, even though he had already left the campus. We’re focused on improving the outcome of school and workplace emergencies by connecting people and empowering them to communicate laterally, at the same hierarchical level. We facilitate collaboration to gain collective intelligence - letting everyone report and see where the danger is, respond to where help is needed and know who is safe as quickly as possible.
