OncoTheis is a Swiss biotech company dedicated to developing innovative bioengineered tissues and organoids for cancer research. We are producing a new generation of integrated 3D in vitro models that combine both healthy and cancerous tissues in order to accurately simulate in vivo situation. Such models are intended to increase the quality of preclinical research while reducing animal testing. Our testing platform is providing in vitro alternative for the: 1. Evaluation of cancer therapies: With more than 1 million deaths each year, lung cancer is a major global health concern. To advance this area of unmet medical need, we have bioengineered an in vitro human lung-cancer model, OncoCilAir™, that recapitulates tumours growing in functional airway tissue. OncoCilAir™ allows testing drug efficacy and side-toxicity, drug resistance and tumor recurrence. 2. Evaluation of carcinogenic risks: Chemical mixtures and exposure circumstances are becoming more and more complex rendering the identification of carcinogenic risks for human highly challenging. OncoTheis is developing human cell systems to detect agents able to promote or increase carcinogenesis. Since 2014, OncoTheis has received several prizes recognizing its involvement in the development of reliable in vitro alternatives to animal experimentation, including the Egon Naef Foundation prize, the EthicScience award and the Lush Science award.
