OP-TEC is the National Center for Optics and Photonics Education, based at LASER-TEC at Indian River State College in Orlando, FL. The OP-TEC Technical Assistance Committee (https://www.linkedin.com/op-tec-technical-assistance) was formed to provide technical support to anyone forming an academic program in optics and photonics, particularly those with the goal of preparing industry technicians. This page was created to enable that support through online communications, so that questions and solutions could be posted online and available to all. Photonics is for the 21st Century what Electronics were for the 20th. New processing and communications technologies, medical treatments, self-driving cars and many other future technologies will either come directly from or be enabled by photonics. For these to happen, the need for skilled technicians will be great.
