Omena is an international, award-winning, youth-led organization dedicated to preventing and breaking the cycle of emotional and psychological abuse through Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and emotional literacy. Founded in Madagascar and now active in both Madagascar and the United States (Rhode Island), Omena works with children, youth, parents, educators, and community leaders to build healthy relationships and safer social environments before harm escalates. In Madagascar, Omena has trained 425+ Community Educators, primarily young leaders, who deliver trauma-informed, peer-led programming rooted in local realities. Through this model, Omena has directly reached over 20,000 children, youth, and caregivers, creating community-based support systems designed for long-term, intergenerational impact. In the United States, Omena partners with school districts and community organizations—including the Pawtucket School District—to deliver parent engagement workshops, educator trainings, and prevention-focused programming that strengthens emotional literacy, family–school relationships, and school climate. Across both contexts, Omena’s work has extended beyond in-person programming through global awareness campaigns, reaching over 1.5 million people online, and contributing to broader conversations on emotional abuse prevention, healthy relationships, and emotional well-being.
