The "Steam Plant" - For a century many of the buildings in the old village of Pinehurst were heated from a central "steam" plant where a coal fired furnace heated water and pumped the hot water under ground to various buildings throughout the village. It is a perfect example of the attention to detail paid by the Tufts family to put architecture even into a service building. 2. The "General Office" - Originally called the "Casino" building housing an eatery the "G.O." became the central headquarters for the Tufts family to operate the village and their resort facilities. They owned all of the utilities, all of the streets, most of the buildings, and all of the resort facilities in the village, all operated from the "G.O." 3. The "Pub" - One of the first "pubs" in America the "Union Street Public House" in Alexandria, Virginia was the gathering place and "watering hole" for some of America's greatest leaders and today remains one of the most beautiful and unique buildings in the country, and, a wonderful "Pub". In our commitment to honor our history, Camellia Parke Shoppes attempts to make tribute to our heritage of New England architectural features and significant old buildings from the old Village of Pinehurst and other significant historic locations. 1. A tribute to the "Packard" building built by the Tufts in 1923 to sell the luxury car of the time.
