The Mariners Church Building was constructed in 1828. The same architect who designed the Mariners Church also designed Quincy Market in Boston. It was a building reared for the moral and religious instruction of seaman from local and afar. The Great Fire of Portland in 1866 damaged much of the building. The Mariners Church was saved from demolition in 1969 when the entire block was purchased by C.H. Robinson. In 1973 the Old Port Tavern opened as a restaurant and bar proving that Portland was not just another nine to five town. That same year the Mariners Church was declared a National Landmark by the Smithsonian Institute. With our unique & historic background, we are incredibly proud to be the Oldest establishment in the Old Port. We have three very special spaces to hold celebrations of all kinds. Located in Portlands historic Old Port District, you will find everything you need.
