Arkansas State Parks are dedicated to enhancing quality of life through exceptional outdoor experiences, heritage connections, and responsible resource management. Aiming for excellent hospitality, these parks encourage visitors to form personal connections, embracing both tradition and innovation to stay relevant and cherished across generations. Key commitments include offering recreational and educational opportunities, preserving natural and cultural resources, boosting the economy, leading in conservation, and balancing tradition with innovation. The concept of Arkansas State Parks was inspired in 1907, leading to the establishment of the system in 1923 after efforts by Dr. T. W. Hardison and legislative support. Significant growth occurred in the 1930s with the Civilian Conservation Corps' contributions, laying the foundation for the infrastructure still in use today. Now, the system boasts 52 state parks across 55,000 acres, featuring 1,800 campsites, 208 cabins, and 5 lodges, annually attracting over 8 million visitors. In 1996, Arkansas voters supported a conservation sales tax, further solidifying the parks' financial and environmental sustainability. Arkansas State Parks are recognized among the nation's most esteemed park systems.
