The Okanagan Rockets are proud members of the BC Major Midget League. The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship. The Rockets have won the BCMML championship twice in club history, the first was back in 2005-2006, while the second came during the 2013-2014 season. The 2013-2014 season proved to be the most successful in Okanagan Rockets history. That season, the Rockets set club records for wins, points, and goals for. The Rockets also claimed the club's first Pacific Regional Championship thanks to a thrilling overtime win in game 3 of the regional final in a sold out Red Deer Arena. The Rockets would go on to claim the bronze medal in their only trip to the Telus Cup, the Canadian midget national championships. For the 2015-2016 season, the Rockets continue their evolution. The Rockets have partnered with Okanagan Mission Secondary School, and the Hockey Canada Skills academy to provide an unparalleled hockey experience for their players. For the first time in club history, all players will attend Okanagan Mission Secondary School and become fully immersed in the culture of the school. "OKM" is widely regarded as one of the top public schools in all of B.C. Partnering with the Hockey Canada Skills Academy will allow players the chance to develop their skills and skating under the tutelage of some tremendously experienced skills and skating instructors. Combined with their regular Rockets practices which will focus on systems and special teams work, the Rockets program will raise the bar on player development. Blending the club into OKM will provide the players with the academic support needed for the high performance student athlete. The Rockets feel that these significant changes will provide their players with the ultimate development experience. From academic support, exceptional skill and skating development, off-ice training, and the competitive rivalries and intensity that life the BCMML offers it's players, the Okanagan Rockets feel their program will be the ultimate stepping stone to help their players transition from midget hockey to the junior ranks, all at price point that provides tremendous value to parents. In the past five seasons under the guidance of general manager David Michaud, the Rockets program has graduated nearly 70% of all players to either the Western Hockey League, or Junior A. With Michaud's experience in the business of hockey, he has cultivated relationships across the WHL / Jr. A and works tirelessly to place his players in organizations.
