Oftalmic is an independent initiative dedicated to helping individuals and families affected by inherited eye diseases navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of genetic diagnosis, research, and emerging therapies. Founded by a physician-scientist with more than 15 years of clinical experience in inherited retinal diseases and active research at leading academic institutions, Oftalmic serves as a bridge between patients, clinicians, and the global scientific community. The field of ocular genetics is advancing rapidly. Hundreds of genes have been linked to inherited retinal and optic nerve disorders, while new gene therapies, RNA-based treatments, genome editing approaches, natural history studies, and clinical trials continue to emerge. For many patients, identifying research groups and centers specializing in their specific condition can be difficult. Oftalmic was created to address this need. Our mission is to provide personalized guidance by identifying research centers, investigators, patient registries, and clinical trials relevant to each individual's diagnosis. We review genetic findings and clinical history to provide evidence-based recommendations tailored to every patient. Whether the diagnosis is confirmed, uncertain, or still unresolved, we help identify the most appropriate next steps and research opportunities. Oftalmic also monitors advances in ocular genomics, including gene augmentation, antisense oligonucleotides, CRISPR genome editing, optogenetics, pharmacological treatments, and cell therapies. We translate complex scientific developments into understandable information, empowering patients and their physicians to make informed decisions. Our vision is a future in which every person with an inherited eye disease has access to expert guidance, accurate genetic information, and opportunities to participate in research, regardless of where they live by connecting patients with leading research centers worldwide.
