Off-Script Safeguarding Information

Off-Script Safeguarding CIC is a specialist safeguarding consultancy supporting theatres, youth arts organisations and creative programmes working with children and young people. We work with organisations across the performing arts and creative sector to strengthen safeguarding practice in ways that reflect the realities of creative environments — from rehearsal rooms and studios to performance weeks, tours and participatory programmes. Creative spaces are often places where young people feel able to express themselves openly, explore identity and build confidence. That openness is one of the sector’s greatest strengths, but it can also bring complexity. Safeguarding in these settings requires an approach that understands emotional expression, physical movement, close working relationships and the diverse needs of young people who may be navigating challenging experiences beyond the creative space. Off-Script Safeguarding brings over 25 years’ experience across safeguarding leadership, youth work, social care and specialist child protection roles. This includes frontline practice, senior management, large-scale programme delivery and the design and implementation of safeguarding systems within complex organisations. Safeguarding has been a consistent thread throughout this work — from statutory child protection and exploitation services to youth provision, education partnerships and national programmes. We support organisations through tailored safeguarding training, policy development, audits and ongoing DSL support. Our approach is practical, proportionate and grounded in real-world delivery. We focus on building confidence — helping staff and volunteers understand their responsibilities, recognise concerns, record information clearly and respond appropriately when issues arise.
