Oahu Choral Society Inc Information

The O'ahu Choral Society (OCS), a 501 (c)(3) non-profit that serves as the administrative body that supports the Honolulu Symphony Chorus. The Honolulu Symphony Chorus was organized in 1978 by Honolulu Symphony Assistant Conductor Sidney Rothstein, as an adjunct to the Symphony. In 1995, the Chorus reorganized as the O'ahu Choral Society (OCS) with Timothy Carney as its music director. Through 2009, OCS performed in a cooperative relationship with the Honolulu Symphony, which provided office space, financial support, and the opportunity for the OCS Symphony Chorus and Chamber Choir to perform with the Symphony, while maintaining the freedom to offer independent concerts and organize major events such as the International Choral Festivals (which the Orvis Foundation supported in the past). Even though the Honolulu Symphony ceased operation in December 2010, OCS has continued to provide fine choral music to the local Hawaiian community, thanks to the generosity of organizations and donors such as the Orvis Foundation, Atherton Foundation, the Honolulu Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts and the Hawai'i State Foundation for Culture and the Arts, as well as corporate and individual donors.
