NurtureFirst Information

We work to strengthen support systems for home-based childcare (HBCC) providers globally so that they can deliver evidence-based, affordable, culturally relevant childcare wherever they are. NurtureFirst is employing a systems change methodology to scale effective support programmes worldwide, building upon the ongoing work of NGOs in the early childhood development (ECD) ecosystem. Through extensive ecosystem mapping, we gather insights from HBCC providers, parents, communities, childcare experts and government stakeholders to design system-change learning interventions that address the key challenges that providers are facing. We then work with Community Based Organizations to implement and measure learning interventions at scale to drive action in governments and global childcare agendas. NurtureFirst’s work started in Kenya, where a dedicated team has conducted a rigorous systems mapping exercise and designed interventions in Mombasa, Kisumu, and Murang’a counties. The learning interventions began in October 2023 and will run until December 2025. Learnings from these interventions will then be replicated in other counties in Kenya, as well as other countries around the world.
