The Center of Renewable Energy and Technology (NUCRET) is a premier example of Northeastern University's commitment to sustainability. This initiative places a strong focus on education, outreach, and entrepreneurship in the realm of sustainability. We strive to lead the way in the science and technology of clean energy by delving into materials science, advanced in situ spectroscopy, micro-fabrication methods, and manufacturing technology. The interdisciplinary team comprises chemists, physicists, engineers, and economist/policy analysts, all united in the common goal of improving the conversion and storage of clean energy. Collaborating with partners worldwide, NUCRET and its team are dedicated to fostering a sustainable future. Under the guidance of Dr. Sanjeev Mukerjee, a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, we spearhead national and global efforts in developing the future of fuel cells. Recognizing the limitations of current technology, which relies on precious metal catalysts like platinum, NUCRET focuses on creating platinum-free catalysts and novel chemistries for advanced rechargeable batteries. The applications span from portable power to large-scale energy storage (lithium-ion, lithium-air, lithium-oxygen, sodium-air, hydrogen-bromine), addressing a significant barrier in the field. Situated conveniently on Northeastern University's campus in the buzzing city of Boston, known as the "College Capital" of America, we benefit from its location as a hub for scientific research. This unique position allows NUCRET to capitalize on cutting-edge research in renewable energy storage, conservation, and harvesting, fostering collaboration with leading institutions and companies in Massachusetts and around the world.
