NuCivic is a mission-based company that provides full-service open source software-as-a-service (“OpenSaaS”) solutions to public sector institutions around the world. NuCivic product offerings include NuCivic Data and NuCivic Apps. NuCivic is the lead maintainer of the open source open data platform DKAN and key contributor to the hackathon/app store management platform OpenCivic, both based on the content management system Drupal. NuCivic was co-founded by Andrew Hoppin and Sheldon Rampton in 2011, inspired by their work introducing and deploying open source systems for the New York State Senate, where Hoppin served as chief information officer. Headquartered in New York City, with offices based in Philadelphia, Madison, Minneapolis, Argentina and the San Francisco Bay Area, the NuCivic team is comprised of experienced open source, open data and open government professionals that bring strategic, philosophical and technical expertise from all areas of the civic spectrum. Current and past NuCivic clients and collaborators include the Open Government Partnership, World Bank, U.S. Agency for International Development, U.S. Department of Agriculture, New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, City of Cologne (Germany), City of San Luis Obispo (California), OpenOakland, Open Puerto Rico, Code for America and other esteemed government, non-profit civic institutions. In 2014, Federal Computer Week named NuCivic one of 17 government technology “hot companies to watch.” NuCivic was acquired by GovDelivery in December 2014 to expand its product and integration expertise and meet the growing state, federal government need for cloud-based, open source solutions.
