These range from Management to Refurbishment/Demolition Surveys, and Reinspection Surveys, which have been a legal requirement for all non-domestic premises and alteration projects since 2006. Asbestos is hidden within other materials meaning it is often out of sight we, therefore, we provide non-intrusive Refurbishment / Demolition Surveys to source any dangerous materials and then instruct the specialists to remove them safely. Places likely to contain asbestos are: Boilers and water tanks Cement Gutters Drywall Roofing shingles Pipes Insulation Textured or popcorn paint How often should you carry out an Asbestos Survey? The answer depends on the plans you have for the building in the future and the age of the building you are in charge of. Asbestos was used in hundreds of products that are still found regularly in both domestic and commercial properties, up until its total ban in the UK in 1999. If left Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs)will degrade over time. If the building does date prior to 2000 then it would need an Asbestos Management Survey which will identify any asbestos-containing materials, how much there is and if there is any damage. How often should an Asbestos Survey be carried out? You will need another survey if you plan any works that are outside of the scope of your original management survey. These works could be refurbishment, maintenance or demolition. For any such works, you will need to have an Asbestos Refurbishment Survey or a Pre-Demolition Survey to establish whether the works will disturb any of the Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs). These surveys will determine whether the ACMs will be disturbed and if the workers need to be protected from the dangerous spores whilst working. The pre-demolition survey will highlight whether materials need to be removed prior to demolition and will provide detailed recommendations.
