Nova Code Collective Information

Nova Code Collective is an all-volunteer-run non-profit that offers small, accessible and repeatable technical workshops to youth who come from communities that are underrepresented in tech. Our founding volunteers have tons of experience leading iOS development workshops to middle school aged girls, transgender and gender non-conforming youth, so that's where we are starting. Nova's open-sourced curriculum is taught by professionals working in tech who can be role models to young people, showing them that tech industry stereotypes don’t tell the whole picture. Each workshop is supported by young people who have attended previous workshops and are now peer mentors. We want people to see themselves at our events. Nova Code Collective's mission is to educate and empower underrepresented youth to pursue tech-related careers within mobile application development. Our vision is a generation of young people equipped with the technical skills and wealth they need to improve their lives and the community around them, regardless of their gender, race, sexual orientation or socio-economic background. We believe that the first step toward a tech workforce that reflects the diversity of the population is a generation of engaged, technically-equipped and community-supported youth.
