Normactivity network Information

NormaCtivity is an international research network that promotes the study of normativity — human and non-human — through a broader, interdisciplinary perspective. Its aim is to connect scholars across fields who share an interest in exploring normative phenomena. Traditionally, normativity has been studied mainly within ethics and law. NormaCtivity expands this scope, inviting contributions from anthropology, sociology, psychology, cognitive sciences, biology, medicine, economics, geography, planning and design, ethology, and beyond. The conviction is that a wider approach can open fresh research directions and yield insights unavailable within the narrow disciplinary boundaries of the twentieth century. The project stems from curiosity about fundamental questions: What is normativity? Must it be tied to language or consciousness? What kinds of entities can play a normative role? What does it mean to say that norms exist? Are norms necessarily propositional? What is “Ought”—and are there different kinds of Ought? Can regulation exist without being normative? The NormaCtivity website functions both as a network — bringing together scholars from different disciplines and countries — and as a platform for collaborative activities: sharing works in progress, organizing discussions, and developing common research projects.
