Nordita Information

Nordita is the Nordic Institute of Theoretical Physics. The purpose of Nordita is to carry out research and strengthen the Nordic collaboration within the basic areas of theoretical physics. Mission * To pursue scientific excellence and promote cutting edge research * To foster and utilize existing Nordic strengths in theoretical physics * To kindle activity in new and emerging areas through international collaboration and strategic recruitment * To create Nordic "critical mass" in specialized areas by stimulating collaboration and coordination among Nordic researchers * To support graduate level physics education and research training History Nordita was founded as the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Atomic Physics in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1957, under the ownership of the Nordic council of Ministers and located at the premises of the Niels Bohr Institute. After the move to Stockholm, Sweden, in 2007, Nordita is run jointly by KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University. Funding Until 2006, Nordita was funded by the five Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden through the Nordic Council of Ministers. Today the funding is shared between the Council, the Swedish Research Council, and the two host universities KTH and Stockholm University.
