NOMAS - National Organization for Men Against Sexism Information

The National Organization For Men Against Sexism is an educational non-profit seeking to create positive social change. Our tenets: Pro-feminist Feminist women, working for their own liberation, are at the same time working toward a world where neither women nor men are constricted by sex and gender roles. LGBTQ+ Affirmative LGBTQ+ persons, working for their own liberation, are at the same time working toward a world where no one is oppressed because of whom they love. Anti-Racist People of color, working for their own liberation, are at the same time working toward a world where people’s ethnic and racial background has no impact on the care they receive from society and their neighbors. Enhancing Men’s Lives It is important to be clear that ending the many forms of oppression in our society is the right thing to do; full stop. The satisfaction of being part of a struggle against social injustice is important, but there are ways in which a man’s own personal life will be improved: • Better time spent with female family members, colleagues, friends, and intimate partners. Responsible, available, and engaged relationships are far more rewarding than distant, functional ones. • Better time spent with one's children. Men can be engaged fathers, rather than merely bread-winners. • Genuine male friendships. By overcoming competitiveness, homophobia, and inexpressiveness, men can begin to experience intimacy, trust, and real support in their relationships with other men. • Putting work in perspective. Instead of building their entire identities around career status and being a Provider, men can develop other sources of satisfaction and self-esteem. • Opportunities for Assistance. Instead of refusing to ask for directions, or resisting seeing a doctor in favor of ‘toughing it out’, men can find ways of sharing their needs and burdens with others in appropriate ways.
