No. Land Farming is a University of Cape Town born start-up business that is run by four young entrepreneurs. No Land Farming is a shared-economy platform where fruit trees are planted, grown and harvested on the property of homeowners in and around Cape Town, with the related food products sold in the marketplace. The idea behind the No Land Farming business concept is that we, as South Africans, don’t need massive amounts of land to farm commercially and in a sustainable manner. The founders strongly believe that conventional farming, as we know it, is unsustainable; and that with the depletion of limited natural resources such as water and land, we need to bring farming closer to our cities, and do it on a scalable micro-level, with little or ‘No Land’. The business pledges to plant fruit trees from their range, and to purchase the yield from the homeowner, at the end of a season. No Land Farming also fully assists the homeowner in growing and maintaining the fruit tree(s) through an interactive mobile application that gives tailored information, from a network of field experts, on how to best take care of the trees (e.g. watering times, pruning, etc.) to ensure the maximum yield of fruit come harvest time.
