Tennessee Task Force One is a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue response team. The team is designed to respond to a variety of disasters, including earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, storms and tornadoes, floods, dam failures, technological accidents, terrorist activities and hazardous materials releases where victims may be trapped, lost or injured. With only 4 hours notice, this nationally recognized group can be on its way with 80-90 highly trained members and thousands of dollars worth of specialized tools and equipment to a community in need. The City of Memphis is the sponsoring agency of the Team, providing administrative staffing, warehouse space and other infrastructure needs; however, the team is also composed of experts from other local fire and police departments as well as professionals from the civilian ranks.

A FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Force (US&R Task Force) is a team of individuals specializing in urban search and rescue, disaster recovery, and emergency triage and medicine. The teams are deployed to emergency and disaster sites within six hours of notification. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) created the Task Force concept to provide support for large scale disasters in the United States. FEMA provides financial, technical and training support for the Task Forces as well as creating and verifying the standards of Task Force personnel and equipment. There are 28 Task Forces in the United States, each sponsored by a local agency. In the event of a disaster in the United States, the nearest three Task Forces will be activated and sent to the site of the disaster. If the situation is large enough, additional teams will be activated. Nevada Task Force 1 or NV-TF1 is a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Force based in Clark County, Nevada. The Clark County Fire Department sponsors the task force but also has members from the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, Henderson Fire Department, North Las Vegas Fire Department and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
