The National Geophysics Society of Iran was established on January 31, 1976 under the name of the National Society of Geophysics of Iran (NIGS) as a result of the efforts of Dr. Hossein Keshi Afshar, Dr. Hossein Zomorrodian, Dr. Khosrow Moazzami Goodarzi, Mr. Ali Akbar Moeenfar, Dr. Manouchehr Sadat Akhavi, Mr. Amir Hossein Mousavi, and Dr. Fariborz Jahanbakhsh. The award of its official status was recorded in a newsletter on October 24, 1976 with registration number 9270, and the Society initiated its activities.
