Through our work, we proved that the millions of cars already on the road are a part of the clean energy future, not just the new ones. We closed out 2025 with a detailed playbook for reclaiming electric vehicle batteries: a standards-aligned framework for safely testing and repurposing them for energy storage and mobility. This is work that we hope will live on when the timing is more favorable: by 2030, hundreds of thousands of EVs will enter salvage every year, yet there is nowhere near enough infrastructure to capture the value of their batteries before recycling.
