Newton’s Attic, a privately funded nonprofit, was founded in 1998 by Bill Cloyd, a professional mechanical engineer and former high school physics and math teacher. Frustrated by the confines of the regular classroom, Cloyd was inspired to create a highly engaging approach to educating students about the engineering through exciting hands-on projects, classes, and summer camps for students in elementary, middle and high school. The overarching purpose of Newton's Attic is to make math, science, and engineering education enjoyable and exciting for young people. We work to fulfill this purpose by creating very unusual educational resources and experiences that stimulate imagination and creativity. At the day camps, field trips, and other engineering challenges provided by Newton’s Attic, students are immersed in hands-on projects daily. They use power tools, industry techniques such as 3D printing and laser cutting, and the knowledge of their expert instructors to develop skills and knowledge in STEM fields, and more importantly, to grow their confidence and ability to learn from failure and capitalize on success. These resources are offbeat and entertaining such that they appeal to a wide range of individuals and illustrate that technical knowledge can be used to provide joy as well as empower individuals to pursue their goals and dreams. We also strive to empower teachers with the tools and resources to produce excellent STEM education. In addition to serving thousands of students at our facility, Newton's Attic engages in community outreach through our programs at schools, libraries, and science and community centers throughout Kentucky. Newton’s Attic has an excellent reputation as a science and engineering resource for students, parents and educators. Newton’s Attic also has a number of unparalleled, hand-made large devices: https://newtonsattic.com/index.php/amazing-devices
