New York Railroad Enthusiasts Information

This organization is for you if you are interested in railroads. It makes no difference if you are an amateur or a professional railroader. Whether your interest is in trips, photography, history or models, the NYRRE has someone who can speak your language. We of the NYRRE have a serious purpose, too. We believe that, regardless of newer and possibly more spectacular forms of transportation, the railroads will remain the most important part of our national transportation system. Without the railroads, the American economy would grind to a halt. It is our intention to bring to our members, and to the public, the story of American (and sometimes foreign) railroads -- past, present and future. Founded in 1934, The New York Railroad Enthusiasts is a non-profit educational organization consisting of railfans from all walks of life. Members receive a copy of the BULLETIN monthly, including July and August. Monthly meetings are held, usually on the fourth Friday of the month, at the Masonic Hall, 71 West 23rd Street, New York City. A speaker is generally featured, along with visual entertainment (slides, sound movies, etc.) to coincide with the program. A fee of $5.00 is charged at the door for non-members. Meetings are not held during July and August. The New York Railroad Enthusiasts maintains an extensive collection of railroad literature at its WILLIAMSON LIBRARY, Room 1646, Grand Central Terminal. It is open for research by members upon request. If you are interested in the history, development and progress of railroads, we invite your application for NYRRE Membership.
