NEMESIS investigates how exposure to metabolism disrupting chemicals (MDCs) present in the environment, food, and consumer products alter our body’s normal metabolism processes and cause diseases, such as fatty liver and type 2 diabetes. The project brings together experts from multiple fields of research to answer persisting scientific uncertainties regarding chemical-induced metabolic disruption. We will utilize a battery of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) including state-of-the-art in vitro and in vivo methods and systems biology approaches, as well as large cohort datasets to provide more comprehensive understanding of the underlying mechanisms of action of metabolic disruptors and their mixtures. The main purpose of this is to find new biomarkers for chemical-induced metabolic disruption for human risk assessment of chemicals. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe programme under grant agreement No 101137405. Horizon Europe aims to ensure its citizens’ are living and working in a health-promoting environment.
