The Navier Laboratory is a joint research unit of the Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées (ENPC | Institute Polytechnique de Paris), the Gustave Eiffel University and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), located in the Cité Descartes in Marne-la-Vallée and employing around 200 people. We conduct research into the mechanics and physics of materials, structures and geomaterials, and their applications to geotechnics, civil engineering, transport, geophysics and energy. The societal issues covered by our activity include sustainable construction, natural hazards, the environment and energy. In developing the mechanical and physical laws relating to these themes, the studies undertaken are both experimental and theoretical. They are made possible by a wide range of equipment, including some large-scale facilities that are unique of their kind.
