National Development Programme Information

Who we are: In 1988, a massive flood in Bangladesh destroyed lives, livelihoods, and property. Sirajganj, located beside the Jamuna River was seriously affected. National and international NGOs helped flood victims. Local youth, with the leadership of Md. Alauddin Khan, the Executive Director, volunteered with NGOs in emergency response and recovery. The team realized that long-term solutions are needed to help the flood victims and the poor people. Their ideas on sustainable development were well-received by donors. It motivated them to start a new organization, and on January 1, 1992, "National Development Programme (NDP)" officially started its journey. Vision: A poverty free society where human rights, dignity and social justice be promoted, local capacity built, eliminated gender discrimination and reduced climate change vulnerability. Mission: NDP works with the communities in order to improve socio-economic status, promote gender equality and bring positive changes in the poor, disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the society through close collaboration with government line departments, local government and administration, civil societies, NGOs, private sectors, development partners and other stakeholders. Target group: The organization primarily serves several kinds of beneficiaries. The poor and extreme/ultra-poor, women, adolescents, children, person with disabilities, and minorities, various occupational groups such as marginal farmers, businessmen, small shop owners, weavers, craftsmen, rickshaw-van pullers. Currently, NDP serves over 7,000,000 project beneficiaries, of which 86% are female. Staff: There are currently 1,419 employees working for NDP. Coverage: NDP is working in 71 Upazilas under 20 districts of 8 divisions. The organization's headquarter is located in Kamarkhanda upazila, Sirajganj district. It has 172 offices across the working area.
