We can’t defend democracy or protect the planet without the law. Yet for most people, the law is out of reach. Namati is the leading global organization dedicated to legal empowerment, which is about taking law out of books and courtrooms and combining it, instead, with the most precious asset communities have: their own people power. For over 10 years, Namati and our partners have supported frontline community members to achieve concrete remedies to social and environmental harms by combining the power of law with the power of organizing. We also convene the Grassroots Justice Network, a community of 18,000+ justice defenders in 190 countries making grassroots justice a reality by putting the power of law in the hands of people. Namati has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The American Journal of Law and Equity, TED, DW, The Economist, Amanpour & Co., The Baltimore Sun, The Telegraph, and Open Global Rights, among other outlets. We’ve received the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, the Global Pluralism Award, and the 2030 Racial Equity Prize, among other honors. Documentaries about our work have been screened at film festivals, government offices, museums, in communities, and beyond.
