NAFIS Network Information

NAFIS Network is a national civil society organization established in November 2006 and headquartered in Hargeisa, Somaliland. As the leading umbrella organization in the country, NAFIS unites more than 20 member organizations dedicated to addressing all forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG) and promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, and social inclusion. Our vision is a society where women and girls live free from violence, discrimination, and harm, with equal access to opportunities, justice, and decision-making processes. Our mission is to eradicate all forms of violence against women and girls in Somaliland through advocacy, capacity building, community engagement, research, and policy reform. NAFIS Network works across multiple strategic areas. We engage with national and regional authorities to advocate for laws and policies that protect women and girls. We empower communities through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and grassroots initiatives, equipping women and girls to advocate for their rights and participate in decision-making processes. We strengthen local institutions and civil society organizations through training, technical support, and resource sharing to enhance their ability to address VAWG effectively. We also conduct research and documentation to better understand patterns of violence and to inform evidence-based interventions. Additionally, NAFIS establishes support services, referral mechanisms, and safe spaces to assist survivors of violence, ensuring comprehensive protection and recovery support. Since our inception, NAFIS has reached thousands of women and girls, providing knowledge, skills, and support to live free from violence and discrimination. By collaborating with government agencies, development partners, and local communities, NAFIS amplifies the voices of marginalized groups, strengthens collective efforts to combat VAWG, and fosters sustainable social transformation.
