Registered in Namibia as a non-profit trust since 2003 (T168/2003), NaDEET is a vibrant, award-winning, environmental education organisation. At the core of NaDEET’s projects are our environmental education centres. NaDEET Centre, located on the NamibRand Nature Reserve in the heart of the Namib Desert, is where participants learn not just by seeing and hearing, but by doing and living. The Urban Sustainability Centre is in the bustling coastal town of Swakopmund and aims to challenge assumptions about the impact of our urban lifestyle choices. At our centres, children and adult participants learn first-hand about sustainable living, biodiversity, and the finding the balance between humans and the environment. Our cross-cutting projects, such as our Teach for ESD professional development programme and environmental education publications, complement the centres’ activities. NaDEET is a member of the Namibia National ESD Task Force and the UNESCO ESD-Net for 2030, which further expands our reach nationwide and internationally, with the intention of integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) across all of Namibia. NaDEET Objectives To provide environmental education for Namibians, regardless of income, by: -addressing relevant environmental issues through hands-on, experiential learning. -supporting the Namibian school curricula in a practical, learner-centred way. -providing the opportunity of experiencing the county's namesake - the Namib Desert - first hand, thus creating a sense of respect and responsibility for their natural environment.
