MUSE is an NGO founded by a group of passionate individuals to address & find solutions to the pressing needs and challenges faced by rural communities in India. Our interventions began in 2002, in Spiti - a stunning but extremely remote high-altitude cold desert nestled deep in the Himalayas. Today, MUSE’s initiatives cover a broad spectrum and aim to create a synergy between the triple bottom line of economic empowerment, conservation and sustainable development. OUR INITIATIVES - Carbon Reduction & Renewable Energy: Harnessing solar energy to provide clean solutions & reduce carbon emissions Climate Change & Water Access: Helping build resilience to climate change and replenishing ground-water levels to enable access to year-round drinking water supply Healthcare: Holistic healthcare interventions to ensure a better quality of life Education: Supporting & enhancing access to quality education Enhanced Nutrition & Livelihoods: Building greenhouses to enable a year-round supply of fresh vegetables in the harsh climes of Spiti & additional livelihoods from sale of excess vegetables Animal Welfare Feeding and sterilization of stray dogs for peaceful co-existence with local communities, wildlife conservation and preservation of the Spitian ecosystem Compassionate Communities: Enabling & supporting acts of Compassion I Love Spiti: Collaborative actions to Reduce-Reuse-Recycle-Upcycle plastic waste in Spiti Livelihoods & Conservation: Enabling livelihoods that are linked closely to conservation of nature and cultural heritage The livelihood & conservation interventions of MUSE in the sphere of tourism led to the genesis of Ecosphere, a social enterprise that envisioned making tourism beneficial and memorable for everyone involved. Ecosphere is today one of the most awarded responsible tourism interventions in the country, whose model is being replicated widely.
