We believe in creating a culture of mindfulness about how we shop, eat, and travel everyday. We believe that each individual, no matter what you do or where you’re from, whether you’re an entrepreneur, a writer, a teacher, an artist, an economist, an environmentalist, has his or her own part to play in making the world a little bit better. Furthermore, we believe this shift in mindset and behavior can happen by sharing knowledge, and more importantly, by building a community that can help support and sustain this change. MUNI exists to create a healthy, sustainable, waste-free world by building a community of cause-driven creatives through meaningful events and experiences that change how we shop, eat, travel and do business. It began as a grassroots movement in November 2012, creating digital content and community meetups about social enterprises, minimizing waste, responsible travel and so on. We engaged a growing community through our Facebook page and group, Instagram, our newsletter, and MUNI Meetups – learning and networking events for healthier, more sustainable living. To date, we’ve organized over 50 MUNI Meetups, mostly in Manila, but also in other Philippine cities like Cebu, Iloilo, Naga, CDO, in Berlin, Germany and the US, with a cumulative attendance of ~2,000 participants. In 2014, we organized the first ever MUNI Market, to showcase sustainable products and services, and more importantly, as an avenue for idea exchange and connection between mindful merchants and conscious consumers. Since the first MUNI Market with 16 merchants, we’ve grown to showcase up to 52 merchants in our biggest run. We’ve organized 6 MUNI Markets to date. In 2017, we also began working with corporations seeking to infuse their company culture with a sustainability mindset, through Employee Eco-Engagement activities around sustainable living, and engaging them in conversations at MUNI Meetups.
