Former President Donald J. Trump was not indicted this week. As much as the politico-legal fraternity would have liked us to believe we are mere hours away from seeing Trump standing before a magistrate tieless, beltless, shoelace-less, hair dye running down his cheeks like his former legal counsel, Rudy Giuliani; it wasn't to be. I am no fan of Donald J. Trump. I thought he was a typical New York jerk when he was a favorite guest of Don Imus. I thought he was a treacherous jerk when he was in the Oval Office. I think he's a pathetic jerk today showing up at weddings and memorial services whining about getting is butt kicked by Joe Biden. The Mullings Director of Standards & Practices (whom someone recently mislabeled as the "Director of Weights & Measures") reminded me to remind you that the totality of my legal education is three hours of Con Law at Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio 45750. Trump's main money man, Allen Weisselberg, was indicted on 15 counts which involved, according to the Washington Post, "conspiracy, grand larceny in the second degree, multiple counts of tax fraud and multiple counts of falsifying records." All of the 15 charges were laid against Weisselberg, and most of them are also charges against the Trump Corporation, but not against Trump his own self. I also took two semesters of "Accounting for the Mathematically Challenged" in night school and I still get turned around remembering what counts as a debit and what counts as a credit. But, I have LIFO and FIFO down cold. The indictment was issued by a New York City grand jury, not a federal grand jury. It charges Weisselberg evaded taxes on some $1.76 million in income including this scheme: "Weisselberg caused the Trump Corporation to issue corporate checks made payable to a Trump Organization employee who cashed the checks and received cash.
