Known for its proximity to seven world-class ski resorts within 40 minutes of campus, the U encourages an active, holistic lifestyle, innovation and collaborative thinking to engage students, faculty and business leaders.
The University of Utah became a member of the PAC-12 conference in July 2011.
Technology and Commercialization
The University of Utah is tops in the country for creating start-up companies from university research, according to a ranking by the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM). See http://unews.utah.edu/news_releases/u-of-utah-no-1-for-startups for more information.
Forbes magazine’s recent ranking of the “Best States for Business” pointed to “an educated labor force” as a big reason Utah came in at number one. Utah State offers top-notch academics, nationally-recognized research, Division I athletics and more than 200 student clubs and organizations, all on the oldest residential campus in the state.
Located in Logan, Utah, USU is only minutes away from two mountain ranges, within a two-hour drive of 10 major ski resorts, and a half-day's drive of six national parks, including Arches and Yellowstone. Utah State offers big-school opportunities with a small-school feel, and all for a great value. So great, it was the #3 highest-ranked public university in the West and #5 in the nation for lowest tuition in “America’s Top Colleges” (Forbes, “Top Colleges,” Aug. 2015).
To date, Utah State has seen year after year increases in total research funding, with research grants from the U.S. Department of Defense, National Science Foundation and the Department of Health and Human Services. USU’s research – often beginning in facilities like the Utah Water Research Laboratory, Space Dynamics Lab, Agricultural Experiment Station and the Center for Persons with Disabilities – provides expertise that reaches globally. And this focus on research starts early for students. USU’s undergraduate research program is the second oldest in the nation, behind only MIT.
As Utah’s land-grant university, Utah State takes seriously its role to provide access to education for every student in every corner of the state. With eight regional campus locations and 24 satellite campus locations, USU provides Utah students access to higher education by breaking through traditional geographic boundaries.
Here at UNLV, we have come together and created one of the most affirmative and dynamic academic environments in the country. UNLV continues to rise in U.S. News & World Report’s annual listing of the nation’s most diverse universities for undergraduates. The university is tied for first in the publication’s annual Best Ethnic Diversity listing.
Since we first opened in 1957, UNLV has undergone an amazing transformation from a small branch college into a thriving urban research institution of more than 30,000 students and 3,300 faculty and staff.
Along the way, the urban land-grant university has become a dynamic resource for one of the country's fastest-growing and most enterprising cities. UNLV's 350-acre main campus, located on the Southern tip of Nevada in a desert valley surrounded by mountains, is home to more than 350 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degree programs, all accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
