MountainTown Singers Information

The MountainTown Singers have been creating exciting a cappella music in central Michigan since 2004. The chapter was chartered with the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) in July of 2005 and is a 501(c)3 organization. The chorus repertoire includes a wide variety of musical styles including Barbershop, Choral, Gospel, Patriotic, Seasonal, and Swing. The chorus is available for hire for corporate/civic events, festivals, and concert series across Michigan. It also provides music in area assisted living facilities and for educational activities as part of its altruistic efforts. The chapter's annual vocal music camp, MountainTown Harmony Explosion, has provided hundreds of young singers an opportunity to experience and understand a true American art form, barbershop singing. The chorus rehearses weekly in the music building at Central Michigan University. Students and staff of the university are an active component of the chorus, coming from diverse academic disciplines. The chapter is a Registered Student Organization on campus and welcomes male students to explore membership and experience singing with a multi-generational group of men from the local communitry and across the state. The chorus also competes in BHS sponsored competitions. They first competed in the BHS's Pioneer District convention in April 2005 and took second place. They went on to become District Champions in 2006, 2009, 2012 and again in 2015, each time that the chorus was eligible to compete. The chorus has performed on the BHS International contest stage in Nashville, TN in 2008, Anaheim, CA. 2009, Philadelphia, PA. 2010, Kansas City, MO. in 2011, Toronto, Canada in 2013, and in Las Vegas, NV. in 2014.
