A Montessori Approach to Young Adulthood
Grove provides an intelligent and positive approach to learning by creating an effective learning environment for 12-18 year olds.
The social conditions of our day “fail to protect the principal energy on which the future depends: human energy, the power of the individual personality” (Maria Montessori). The Grove School seeks to address this lack with a program that promotes independence and the construction of the authentic self.
The Highfield School is an ambitious school where all are encouraged to achieve their full potential. Our vision that ‘we work together to succeed and thrive’ is based on a culture of high expectation, challenge and the support needed, so that by we can all achieve our goals. We have an excellent reputation both academically and pastorally. This reputation is based on outstanding teaching and learning and high standards and expectations. We expect all our students to work very hard but recognise that the very best learning takes place when it is harnessed to interest and enjoyment. Our curriculum is therefore innovative and relevant and whilst there is a great emphasis on English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Languages, this is balanced by a promotion of and dedication to the arts and creativity.
As a learning community, academic achievement is of course incredibly important. Of equal importance is helping our students to develop strong values with a focus on personal development, in order to support our young people in gaining a strong sense of their place in their local, national and global communities. Driving this ethos, are our core values of being ‘Caring, Respectful and Determined.’
Our students are at the heart of everything we do and student leadership is a driving force within the school community and is a further opportunity for our students to acquire the skills and confidence needed to be the leaders of the future, in a diverse and competitive world. Our Head Student Leaders, along with the School Council, work hard with our wider School Parliament, to ensure that student voice is shared and ultimately has an impact on the way our school community operates and what we offer our students.
We are immensely proud of the achievements of all our students and celebrate their successes at every opportunity. These successes are built on a genuine partnership between students, the school, parents and the community.
