Morehead Writing Project Information

Founded in 1986, MWP is a federally-funded professional development program whose goal is to help Eastern Kentucky public school teachers become better writers and writing teachers. We are affiliated with the National Writing Project, the Kentucky Writing Project, and Morehead State University. MWP's involvement in the state and national networks offers students and teachers opportunities beyond MWP's local programming such as the National Writing Project's renowned College, Career, and Community Writers Program, which has recently found tremendous success in Fleming County; a MacArthur-funded Journalism Camp; and Bath County's LRNG Innovators Challenge grant, Making A Future for All: Connecting Passion To Profession. At the core of our work is an invitational Summer Institute-a Fellowship program unique to National Writing Project sites. Additionally, MWP provides year-round contracted and grant-funded outreach programs and teacher training to Eastern Kentucky schools. All MWP programs align with Kentucky Core Content and Program of Studies curricula and Kentucky Professional Development Standards. As a National Writing Project affiliate, MWP qualifies as an exemplary professional development provider by No Child Left Behind regulations. Share this: Print
